Mt Baw Baw Flame Robin

Little wild birds of West Gippsland

I have recently noticed just how many beautiful little wild birds there are in the garden. One of my favourite is the Flame Robin which I’ve seen numerous times up at Mt Baw Baw. I love the the Flame Robin call, which is a distinct musical chirp. You can hear the distinct call here. It is native to Australia and commonly seen in the cooler south eastern areas of Australia such as the Baw Baw Plateau and Tasmania.

I was inspired to paint this watercolour piece after seeing the Flame Robins flitting through the Baw Baw snow gums. I love the contrast of their bright orange red bellies against the trees.

I entered and sold this artwork in the local Birds of Colour Art Exhibition at the lovely Serigraph Gallery in Neerim South, Victoria. The artist owners Christine and Keith have some truly beautiful artworks and furniture pieces on display in the gallery. If you find yourself in the West Gippsland area, it is definitely worth contacting them to organise a visit.
