Delving into Washi Collage

Recently I rediscovered some Japanese washi papers from the Ino-cho Paper Museum I had bought years ago when I was living in Kochi Prefecture. I was always reluctant to use them, thinking they were too pretty to use.
Finally I gathered the courage to finally use them. I’ve always wanted to incorporate my experiences in Japan and my strong connection to the country in my artworks but struggled to find a way. That was until I discovered I could combine these beautiful papers, my watercolour artworks and even some lino prints into one piece. And so my washi collage pieces were born. It was also an art form that my daughter loved – sticking her bits of paper to more paper!
